Staff Nurse I
About the role
The Staff Nurse I provides advanced nursing care in a pediatric clinic setting. Responsibilities include triage, patient care coordination, documentation, and quality improvement.
Responsibilities
- Administers and coordinates skilled patient care.
- Rooms patients and preps for provider.
- Takes vitals and alerts provider of abnormal/irregular results.
- Obtains specimens for diagnostic testing including urine, blood and POCTs.
- Auxiliaries in therapeutic or diagnostic procedures such as PFT’s, pulse oximetry, gentian violet treatments, suture removals and dressing changes.
- Prepares and administers oral medications and intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections including vaccines and antibiotics.
- Initiates emergency measures for adverse reactions and reports patient conditions to provider.
- Provides direct patient care during medical emergencies.
- Educates patients and families on pediatric health care related to specific disease entities.
- Ensures coordination of patient care among staff.
- Documents patient visit information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Schedules various tests, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and hospital admissions.
- Pre-certifies diagnostic or therapeutic procedures with insurance companies.
- Coordinates patient referrals to other physicians or outside services.
- Trages incoming patient calls, assesses symptoms, provides patient guidance and/or consults with the provider when necessary.
- Maintains good working relationships with physicians, hospitals, patients, families, outside agencies and fellow staff members.
- Occasionally covers for other Staff Nurse I's and Administrative Nurses who may be absent or out of the office.
- Ensures closing procedures are followed, rooms are cleaned and stocked, and supplies are ordered at the end of the day.
Requirements
- Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
- Current AHA BLS/CPR and other required unit specific certifications.
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family, and health care providers.
- Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
- Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
Qualifications
- Experience in pediatrics is preferred.
- Office experience is preferred.

Advanced nursing techniques, effective communication, intermediate computer skills, and proficiency in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

Pay
$39.00 - $50.80 per hour, final salary determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints.
Schedule
Days, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
