About the role
The Oncology Registered Nurse at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is responsible for patient assessment, education, coordination of care, administration of therapy, symptom management, and supportive care for patients with oncologic and hematologic problems. This role involves administering chemotherapy and other medications, performing procedures, educating patients and families, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Implements the nursing process: Assessment, Nursing Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation.
- Achieves health care outcomes in line with clinical practice guidelines.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to enhance patient care.
- Administers medications and treatments, including chemotherapy and biotherapy.
- Evaluates educational and psychological needs of patients and families.
- Manages patient care across the continuum, referring patients to home care and hospice as necessary.
- Performs technical skills such as intravenous therapy, safe handling of hazardous materials, and chemotherapy administration.
- Provides telephone nursing care and patient education.
- Monitors the environment for patient safety and complies with regulatory standards.
- Works collaboratively with the health care team and participates in committees and initiatives.
- Facilitates professional growth through ongoing learning and mentoring.
Requirements
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts or New Hampshire.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred, with an associate degree requiring completion of a BSN within 4 years.
- At least 1 year of recent RN experience, with preference for ambulatory and/or oncology experience.
- Professional nursing certification (e.g., OCN, BMTCN, CPHON, AOCNP, CRNI, RN-BC) preferred.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) acceptable.
