Staff Motion Designer - 3D
for sections like About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. We must include only sections that have real specific content. We must not repeat job title as heading. Must not include Job ID etc. Must preserve all substantive info, remove boilerplate, navigation, legal, EEO, etc. Also remove application instructions (like Create a Job Alert, Apply for this job, form fields). Must not invent or summarize away detail. Must not include filler like "commensurate with experience". Must not create Pay/Schedule/Benefits sections unless posting actually states them. The posting includes a "Total Rewards" section with salary ranges and mentions base salary, equity, benefits. So we can include Pay section with salary ranges. Benefits? It mentions benefits generally but not specifics; we should not create Benefits section unless specific benefits listed. It says "total rewards package includes base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits." No specifics. So we should not create Benefits section because no specific benefits listed. Schedule? Not mentioned. So we omit Schedule.
We need sections: About the role (maybe a summary), Responsibilities (the "In This Role, You'll ..." bullet list), Requirements/Qualifications/Skills (the "What You'll Bring" list). Could combine Requirements and Qualifications? The instruction says use headings for those categories if content exists. We have content for Requirements (experience, proficiency, etc.) and also Skills (maybe overlapping). We could have a single "Requirements" heading covering all. Or separate "Qualifications" and "Skills". Better to follow typical: "Requirements" for experience and proficiency, "Skills" for soft skills like communication, leadership, AI fluency. But we must not create thin sections. Let's see content:
"What You'll Bring" includes:
- 10+ years of professional experience in motion design, with a portfolio that shows mastery across 3D and 2D...
- Advanced proficiency in Cinema 4D, Houdini, Blender, or similar 3D tools...
- Advanced proficiency in After Effects or similar 2D motion tools...
- Experience building and documenting motion systems or brand guidelines...
- Comfort moving between big, high-craft brand moments and faster-moving product/UI and social work...
- A track record of art-directing or mentoring other designers...
- Genuine fluency with AI tooling as part of a creative practice...
- Exposure to scripting or procedural workflows (expressions, Houdini VEX, Python) is a strong plus.
- Strong communication skills...
- A natural leader...
These are a mix of requirements and skills. Could split: Requirements: years experience, proficiency in tools, experience building motion systems, comfort moving between contexts, track record of art-directing, exposure to scripting (plus). Skills: communication skills, natural leader, AI fluency, etc. But AI fluency also could be skill. However we must avoid too many thin sections. Perhaps combine into one "Requirements" section covering all. That's acceptable.
Responsibilities: the bullet list under "In This Role, You'll". That's substantive.
About the role: we have introductory paragraph describing Mercury, mission, role context. Could be "About the role". That's fine.
Pay: we have salary ranges. So we create Pay
with
containing the ranges. We must not include boilerplate like "Mercury values diversity & belonging..." etc. Remove EEO statements. Also remove "Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank..." maybe that's substantive? It's a disclaimer about banking services. Might be considered boilerplate but it's factual about the company. The instruction: remove cookie/navigation/legal/EEO/equal-opportunity/scam-warning boilerplate. That line is legal disclaimer about banking services. Might be considered legal. Safer to remove it. Also remove "Total Rewards The total rewards package at Mercury includes base salary, equity (stock options/RSUs), and benefits." We already used salary info; we can keep the salary ranges but discard the rest. We must preserve ALL substantive information; do not invent or summarize away detail. So we need to keep the salary ranges exactly as given. Also keep the location options: San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or United States. That's location info; could be part of About the role or maybe a separate section? Not specified heading for location. Could include in About the role paragraph. We must not include "Create a Job Alert", "Apply for this job", form fields. Now produce HTML fragment. Structure:
About the role
Mercury is a financial technology company building products that feel extraordinary to use, helping people and businesses accomplish more with their money by turning banking into a catalyst for their ambitions. We’re looking for a Staff Motion Designer to own motion at Mercury, from launch films and product videos that introduce our biggest bets, to the systems and standards that define how motion looks and feels across every surface. This is the most senior craft role on the team: someone who sets the bar through their own work. You'll move fluidly between 3D worlds, materials, and textures for our highest-profile brand moments, and the day-to-day motion, UI, and interaction work that makes Mercury feel considered everywhere it shows up. You'll also help define how AI fits into a motion practice at Mercury — using it to move faster on pre-vis, iteration, and asset generation, while knowing exactly where craft still has to be done by hand. The role is based in San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, Portland, OR, or Remote within Canada or the United States.
Responsibilities
- Lead motion concepts for major product launches, campaigns, and brand moments, with strong 3D capability across product visualization, environments, objects, and brand worlds.
- Build 3D worlds, materials, and textures that give Mercury's biggest launches and brand moments a distinct, recognizable feel.
- Lead product storytelling, title design, typography, transitions, diagrams, and UI motion, turning complex products into simple, compelling visual stories.
- Define and build out Mercury's motion design system: principles for typography, pacing, transitions, product UI, sound, and interaction, plus reusable behaviors and templates that don't feel templated.
- Explore motion in interactive contexts, and bring an informed point of view on where AI tooling can extend the team's speed and craft without flattening it.
- Build and champion AI-assisted workflows for motion and 3D, from generative pre-vis and storyboarding to texture, world, and asset generation, and share what's working with the rest of Brand Studio.
- Evaluate new AI creative tools as they emerge and make the call on which are worth adopting into the team's pipeline versus which compromise craft.
- Partner with Design, Writing, Narrative, and Production from concept through delivery, and act as a key cross-functional player on the brand's biggest moments.
- Personally lead high-level 3D and motion craft while art-directing specialist animators, 3D artists, and studios when additional depth or scale is needed.
- Raise the motion craft of the broader Brand Studio through partnership, critique, and example: set the standard by doing the work, not just defining it.
- Protect craft and coherence across every moving expression of the brand, from a 30-second launch film to a UI micro-interaction.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in motion design, with a portfolio that shows mastery across 3D and 2D: not just execution, but conceptual thinking about how motion should move, feel, and unfold over time.
- Advanced proficiency in Cinema 4D, Houdini, Blender, or similar 3D tools, including materials, texturing, lighting, and world-building.
- Advanced proficiency in After Effects or similar 2D motion tools, with deep command of timing, easing, composition, and finishing detail.
- Experience building and documenting motion systems or brand guidelines, not just one-off deliverables.
- Comfort moving between big, high-craft brand moments and faster-moving product/UI and social work without losing quality.
- A track record of art-directing or mentoring other designers, animators, or outside studios.
- Genuine fluency with AI tooling as part of a creative practice, and a clear sense of where it helps and where craft still wins.
- Exposure to scripting or procedural workflows (expressions, Houdini VEX, Python) is a strong plus.
- Strong communication skills, able to clearly articulate concepts and creative decisions to internal teams, leadership, and external partners.
- A natural leader: someone who thrives in a highly collaborative environment where the best ideas drive progress, not the most powerful voices in the room.
