Staff Mechanical Engineer - Central Maintenance

About the role

This experienced Staff Mechanical Engineer will provide services to the Central Maintenance department to safely meet Arconic’s business plan for engineering, production, maintenance, and quality standards. In this role, you will serve as a critical team member to optimize the safety, efficiency, output, and quality of our plant infrastructure and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize project management tools for the successful implementation of both sustaining and new capital improvement projects
  • Coordinate all phases of assigned area mechanical engineering projects from concept, scope development, written specifications, project safety reviews, bid solicitations, design, manufacturing, equipment commissioning, and project closure
  • Manage external vendors and contractors who provide design, material, installation, and other support functions
  • Focus on tactical projects in the areas of safety, infrastructure reliability, training, and production
  • Lead and support the execution of problem-solving efforts related to process and machine improvements

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Ag Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience developing project business cases and writing project approval requests
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills with the ability to work & interact at all levels of an organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Project programs

Preferred

  • 10 or more years of experience of manufacturing processes, especially in the metals industry
  • Experience with industrial furnaces
  • Experience interpreting design and control of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or utility systems for machine understanding and performing improvement modifications
  • Experience with reliability techniques, including measurement, statistical control, capability, and maintainability
  • Experience developing and implementing mechanical engineering project work
  • Strong problem-solving skills, using both theoretical and practical methods to achieve improvements or correct identified problems

About The Team

Davenport Works is the country’s largest aluminum rolling mill, it was opened in 1948 and currently employs more than 2,000 people and ships product worldwide. It is in Riverdale in the Quad Cities (Davenport and Bettendorf in southeastern Iowa, and Rock Island and Moline in northwestern Illinois). The Quad Cities is 3 hours south-west of Chicago, 4 hours north of St. Louis, and less than 3 hours from Des Moines. The Quad Cities is home to St. Ambrose University among 8 educational institutes.
