About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Material and Process Engineer with our ASI Division, located in Poway, CA. This role supports the Mechanical Engineering Department for:

  • Large Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV)
  • Ground Control Stations (GCS)
  • Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

Additional support is provided to Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, and Field Support to address Materials and Process related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Materials Engineering support for design, development, test, productization, and fielding of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
  • Perform failure investigations and materials characterization using laboratory techniques.
  • Address material compatibility between aircraft fluids (Jet Fuel, Engine Oil, de-icing fluids, hydraulic fluids) and materials such as o-rings and polymers.
  • Apply knowledge of corrosion prevention and control, aerospace polymers, and surface finishing techniques (anodize, conversion coatings, passivation, paints, plating, cleaning, abrasive blasting, shot peening).
  • Understand airworthiness regulations and hazardous materials concerns related to Materials and Processes.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and safety practices in accordance with company procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. A degree in materials engineering is preferred.
  • Progressive engineering experience: nine or more years with a bachelor’s degree, seven or more years with a master’s degree, or four or more years with a PhD. Equivalent engineering experience may substitute for education.
  • Hands-on experience with civilian and military aerospace materials (ferrous/non-ferrous metals, plastics, paints, adhesives/sealants) and manufacturing processes (machining, heat treatment, welding, non-destructive inspection).
  • Experience with fuel contamination issues (FAME, microorganisms, water, particulates, fuel additives) is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter able to work independently and address issues promptly.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Pay

Salary range: $105,890 – $189,545
