Job Summary
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars. We are seeking a Staff Material and Process Engineer for our ASI Division in Poway, CA.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in metallic Additive Manufacturing, metallurgical analysis, material processing, mechanical testing, nondestructive inspection, and related materials technologies.
- Establish materials laboratory procedures.
- Perform material related failure investigations to determine root cause and provide corrective action recommendations.
- Investigate and implement material related design and manufacturing process improvements.
- Resolve manufacturing and nonconformance issues as they relate to materials and finishes.
- Participate in Supplier Quality Audits for metallic processes and finishes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows:
- Nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD.
- May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Prioritize degree in materials engineering.
- Experience with common civilian and military aerospace materials (ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, paints, adhesives/sealants, etc.), manufacturing processes (machining, heat treatment, welding, non-destructive inspection, etc.), and surface finishing techniques (anodize, conversion coatings, passivation, paints, plating, cleaning, abrasive blasting, shot peening, etc.).
- Experience with failure investigations and materials characterization laboratory techniques.
- Understanding of airworthiness regulations as they pertain to Materials and Processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-starter able to work independently and responsively to address and close issues quickly.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
