Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Merchants

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end technical delivery for cross-team ML initiatives from problem framing to implementation
• Set the technical direction and create execution plans alongside a Director and key cross-functional leaders
• Develop and refine ML and GenAI systems that enhance merchant understanding and improve shopping experiences
• Establish robust evaluation and measurement practices for ML systems to ensure quality and performance
• Create the ML engineering operation model focused on quality standards and sustainable ownership
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to crystallize ambiguous needs into actionable ML projects
• Lead experimentation initiatives and error analysis to drive measurable improvements in user trust

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in ML engineering or related fields, with leadership in production systems as a Staff-level IC
• Proven track record of leading 0-1 ML/LLM projects from ambiguity to production with measurable results
• Experience shipping ML systems in recommendation, ranking, retrieval, or commerce domains with impact on product
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-powered applications in production, focusing on reliability and practical tradeoffs
• In-depth knowledge of evaluation practices including dataset strategy and connecting offline/online metrics
• Strong systems design abilities for ML-intensive solutions with an eye on performance and scalability
• Excellent communication skills for influencing technical directions across teams

$213,180 – $314,160 annually
