Staff Level Paleontologist (Temporary)

About The Opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Staff-Level Paleontologist to join our Las Vegas, Nevada team. This temporary position involves conducting paleontological resource monitoring and fieldwork for projects in southern Nevada, as well as other areas in Southern California and the western United States.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys.
• Assist with construction monitoring.
• Participate in excavations and fossil salvages.
• Travel for fieldwork, including overnight stays, weekend work, and out-of-state travel.
• Monitor and direct the activities of a crew in the field.
• Ensure employees understand their responsibilities and delegated tasks.
• Communicate issues to relevant senior managers and resolve employee complaints.
• Maintain team productivity and offer performance guidance.

Qualifications

• Education: Possession of a B.S. or B.A. degree with an emphasis in paleontology, earth science, or geology, or equivalent experience.
• Experience: Up to 2 years of relevant experience for a Staff Paleontologist, up to 1 year for an Assistant Staff Paleontologist, and up to 6 months for a Paleontological Technician.
• Skills: Knowledge of basic field geology, proficiency in recognizing fossils, ability to work in inclement weather, and experience with paleontological mitigation projects.
