Staff Instrumentation Engineer

About the role

Review client requirements and standards for new or updated process instrumentation and develop instrumentation solutions, including detailed designs, specifications, and sizing of process instrumentation such as control valves and on/off automated valves. Experience with DCS and PLC systems is required. Capable of working on multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead instrumentation projects and prepare project scope of work
• Attend client technical meetings and field walk-down meetings
• Develop and produce instrumentation design solutions and deliverables
• Perform selection and sizing of process instrumentation
• Generate instrumentation data sheets, instrument sizing calculations, loop drawings, installation details, instrument lists, DCS/PLC I/O lists, and P&IDs
• Work with piping group for in-line instrumentation piping designs, level designs, flow metering straight runs, and control valve stations

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Instrument, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
• Knowledge of ISA, API, and ASME instrumentation standards
• Working knowledge of SPI and instrument vendors' sizing software
• Experience leading small teams and working with other disciplines
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills

Field Assignment Requirements

• Possess physical mobility (on the ground and at heights)
• Ability to pick up, lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs
• Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using required fall protection
• Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, wind) while wearing appropriate PPE (hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves, steel-toed work boots)
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Adhere to client-specific site requirements, including random drug testing and facial hair safety policies

Pay

$110,000 - $150,000 annually. The pay range represents a general guideline; actual base salary is determined by factors such as depth of experience, skill set, certifications, specific work location, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses or other incentive compensation plans in addition to base pay.
