About the Role
You will be a core owner of our AWS and GCP environments, ensuring resilience, efficiency, and security. Your responsibilities include designing and maintaining the network between cloud and printers, running services on Kubernetes with Istio, owning Terraform initiatives, and leading CI/CD pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Operate & Extend Multi-Cloud Infrastructure: Keep AWS and GCP resilient, cost-efficient, and secure; extend them to support new Carbon products.
- Build the Network Between Cloud and Printer: Design and maintain networking that connects cloud services to a global fleet of printers.
- Run Services on Kubernetes with Istio: Drive improvements to cluster architecture, workload isolation, traffic management, mTLS, and observability.
- Own Infrastructure as Code in Terraform: Take ownership of significant Terraform initiatives, manage state and modules, and ensure infrastructure is shipped safely.
- Ship Software Faster and Safer with CI/CD: Lead improvements to Jenkins and GitHub Actions pipelines, focusing on faster builds, safer deploys, and clear paths to production.
- Own Reliability Alongside Product Teams: Participate in on-call rotations, drive incident response, and turn recurring issues into permanent fixes.
- Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Translate real product and operational needs into robust designs, mentor engineers, and raise the bar through design and code review.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of experience building and operating production cloud infrastructure, with deep expertise in AWS or GCP.
- Strong networking fundamentals: VPCs, subnets, routing, DNS, load balancing, TLS, and secure connectivity.
- Expert-level Terraform: Design modules, manage state, and lead migrations without downtime.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins and GitHub Actions.
- Strong Kubernetes expertise: Operate at scale, design workload and upgrade strategies, and understand multi-tenant strategies.
- Hands-on experience with Istio or another service mesh, including envoy-based traffic management, mTLS, and mesh observability.
- Fluency in Linux and containers, and experience with scripting or systems languages.
- A production mindset: Think about failure modes, blast radius, cost, and observability from the start.
- Strong communication, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Nice to have: Experience connecting cloud services to physical devices, familiarity with Bazel or polyglot monorepo build systems, experience with security and compliance controls, and experience with platform teams as internal customers.
