Staff Geotechnical Engineer

About the role

CMT Technical Services is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Centennial, CO. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early‑career professional to gain hands‑on experience and grow within our geotechnical division, working alongside experienced engineers and technical staff on projects that shape the built environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct geotechnical exploration programs.
• Perform field and laboratory investigations to assess subsurface and site conditions.
• Analyze geotechnical findings and perform engineering calculations.
• Prepare geotechnical reports and documentation for review by senior engineers.
• Support and guide field inspection teams during site activities.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure timely project completion.
• Assist with evaluating team performance and identifying training needs.
• Perform general office administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering (or related field).
• 0–2 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering (Colorado preferred).
• Proficiency in soil mechanics and geotechnical analysis.
• Ability to solve engineering challenges with creativity and critical thinking.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Team‑oriented mindset and professional attitude.

Preferred qualifications

• Internship or co‑op experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Familiarity with field logging, lab testing, or foundation design.
• Demonstrated leadership or mentorship potential.
• Passion for geotechnical problem‑solving and innovation.
• OSHA 10 or 30‑Hour Construction Safety certification (preferred, not required).

Pay

$75,000 to $90,000 annual salary
