Staff Geologist/Environmental Scientist

About the role

LaBella is seeking a Staff Geologist/Environmental Scientist for its Greensboro, NC office within the Waste & Recycling division. The Greensboro office delivers focused, technical environmental consulting services backed by the resources of a larger‑sized firm. Responsibilities

• Perform field work including groundwater, soil, and surface water sampling.
• Submit samples to a laboratory for analysis.
• Manage and evaluate field and laboratory data.
• Supervise contractors and drillers.
• Support the preparation of technical reports.
• Assist project managers on various projects.
• Balance a mix of office and field time.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Geology or Environmental Science preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in a related environmental position.
• 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred but not required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environmental consulting environment.
• Strong communication skills (active listening, written, and verbal).
• Organized with strong attention to detail.
• Highly motivated with excellent client‑service skills and a positive attitude.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities.
• Valid NC driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.

Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, database) and Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam.
• Experience using field equipment such as pumps, water‑quality meters, and landfill‑gas meters, or ability to learn operation with training.
• Basic soil and groundwater sampling techniques.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry or otherwise move up to 25 pounds.
• Move safely over uneven, steep, and irregular terrain.
• Wear personal protective gear.
• Drive a passenger vehicle (field truck).
• Work outdoors in various weather extremes (heat, cold, rain).
