Staff Fullstack Engineer

About the role

You'll join the team building the modern tech stack our college runs on — bringing the backbone of higher education into the 21st century. Billions of dollars flow through colleges every year as financial aid, tuition, and federal disbursements, and most of it still moves through software built decades ago. We're modernizing these workflows with tools that are fast, correct, and audit-ready by design.

You'll help develop technology that supports Financial Aid and Student Accounts, integrating with complex federal systems that are old, opinionated, and unforgiving. You'll work closely with Financial Aid, Student Accounts, and Registrar teams to turn manual, compliance-heavy processes into durable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Ship meaningful features quickly: Solve high-impact problems and deliver solutions using modern workflows—feature flags, CI/CD, automated testing, and AI-assisted coding.
• Build infrastructure that has to be right: Design APIs, services, and data flows where idempotency, reconciliation, and observability aren't nice-to-have—they're the job.
• Improve how we work: Contribute to engineering best practices, refine our developer tooling, and shape processes that help the team scale effectively.
• Collaborate: Partner with Product, Design, Financial Aid, and Student Accounts to deliver end-to-end solutions on the problems that matter most.
• Solve challenging problems: Build the next generation of systems powering modern higher education—your work will directly improve outcomes for students and the teams behind them.

Requirements

• Solid engineering foundation: 6–8 years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend development skills. Experience with Go, Python, or similar is especially valuable; familiarity with React is a plus.
• Proven shipper: Track record of building and releasing high-quality products or features at scale.

Qualifications

• Experience with Go, Python, or similar programming languages.
• Familiarity with React or other JavaScript frameworks.
• Strong understanding of backend development principles and practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Knowledge of modern web development technologies and best practices.
• Experience with data modeling and database design.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
