Staff Software Engineer

About the role

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable, maintainable, and high-performance backend systems that power critical workforce management products.
  • Deliver high-quality features quickly by balancing speed and safety in your code.
  • Own architectural decisions and guide the full product lifecycle, from ideation to production.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and other teams to gather customer feedback and refine the product roadmap.
  • Mentor and lead junior engineers by sharing your expertise and promoting engineering best practices across the team.
  • Shape the future of Rippling’s international expansion by working on some of our most high-impact products.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in backend development with expertise in Python, Django, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with React or JavaScript.
  • A strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, algorithms, and system design.
  • Comfortable working with systems at scale and navigating complex technical challenges.
  • A deep understanding of the end user and a passion for creating an intuitive, polished experience.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a drive to solve complex challenges.

Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms and services.
  • Knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
  • Experience with microservices architecture.
  • Experience with DevOps tools and practices.

Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.

Pay

The pay range for this role is: 189,000 - 315,000 USD per year (US Tier 1)
