About the role

The Fueling Staff Structural Engineer will work on project teams to create world-class structural designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments supporting a variety of projects. This position supports the Aircraft Systems and Department of Defense (DoD) Business Lines within the Aviation & Federal Global Practice. Burns & McDonnell is considered the leading consultant in the aircraft fueling industry. We are engaged in a variety of high-visibility design and construction projects at major airports and military installations worldwide.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Design structural components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used structural engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the structural engineering services industry.
  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and construction administration for projects.
  • Performs field inspections, measurements, and calculations for public and private clients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of structural engineering experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the FE exam and 3 years of experience; or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and 2 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques and procedures; Proficiency with structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D, ETABS, SAFE) and BIM tools (Revit, Tekla); Strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills; Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills; Ability to travel up to approximately 25% as project needs require.
