Staff Forward Deployed Platform Engineer
About the role
AI FDE is a forward-deployed engineering team serving internal customers across Strategy, Clinical Operations, Admissions, Finance, Growth, People, etc. You will lead the team's roadmap and platform—a vibe coding platform enabling non-technical users to build real applications with AI, shipped securely within a HIPAA-regulated clinical business. This is a hands-on technical leadership role (no direct reports) where you'll be building alongside customers, owning the platform, and developing training programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead the AI FDE team: engagement model, operating cadence, platform roadmap (in partnership with leadership)
- Own the builder platform: application templates, deployment pipelines, authentication, database, security scanning, observability
- Run forward-deployed engagements: scoping, saying no when appropriate, handing over working solutions with autonomous builders
- Develop builder training and certification programs with leveled curriculum and shipping gates
- Hold guardrails ensuring patient data security and platform safety
- Build with AI in front of non-technical users; model skeptical review of agent output
- Generalize repeated patterns into templates or paved-road features
- Assist in hiring and onboarding engineers
- Feed engagement insights back into agentic tooling
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience with meaningful work directly with customers or non-technical users (forward-deployed, solutions, or product engineering)
- Ship quick prototypes and MVPs turning vague workflows into functional tools within days
- Teacher's instinct: making technical concepts accessible without jargon
- Measure success by capabilities built in others, not dependency on you
- Sound judgment under pressure: holding security/compliance lines when senior stakeholders push
- Bias toward action: ship rough quickly, iterate with real users
- Familiarity with agent tooling: skills, MCPs, harnesses, orchestration for software development
- Daily use of AI agents with skeptical review; identify failure patterns into quality checks
- Strong communication and empathy for non-technical users' workflows
- Comfort owning a platform in regulated environments (guardrails mandatory)
Nice to Haves
- Founder, early-startup, or generalist background (end-to-end product ownership)
- Healthcare/HIPAA-regulated engineering experience
- Internal platform, developer tooling, low-code, or prototyping system experience
- Curriculum, enablement, or developer-advocacy work
- Familiarity with: Python, TypeScript, React, Postgres, Terragrunt, AWS Lambda
Compensation & Benefits
Total target base compensation: $185,000 – $265,000 per year (based on location, experience, expertise, internal equity). Comprehensive benefits offered to full-time exempt employees. Additional compensation may include stock options.
