Staff Engr
Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Quality Management Office (QMO) partners with line organizations to develop and deliver programs, activities, and services that integrate quality assurance, environmental, and safety management principles across the Laboratory.
About the role
The Process Improvement Specialist will serve as a central resource for line organizations, driving continuous improvement of business processes, enhancing efficiency and customer/user satisfaction, and integrating Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles into work.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate teams and engage with staff to understand business processes and practices
- Organize and facilitate team meetings, set targeted agendas, and manage team feedback
- Use Lean Six Sigma (DMAIC) tools to develop solutions that improve, optimize, or redesign processes
- Facilitate improvements to business processes and tools to deliver efficiencies and customer satisfaction
- Develop current-state process maps in MS Visio for review and analysis
- Develop future-state process maps in MS Visio that incorporate process efficiencies based on customer needs
- Manage the lifecycle of an improvement project using key metrics to monitor performance and maintain system control
- Work with business units to manage change, document workflow and process changes, and develop standard operating procedures
- Demonstrate commitment to working safely, acting ethically, and taking personal accountability for operational excellence
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline or closely related field of study
- Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible related work experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, process improvement, continuous improvement, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated competency in process mapping
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to facilitate teams with diverse skills and talents during all phases of process improvement projects
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, or comparable continuous/process improvement methodologies
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma certification (Yellow Belt or higher)
- Project Management Certification or training
- Familiarity with Quality Management processes
- Familiarity with BNL business and administrative processes
- Familiarity with Microsoft Visio
- Familiarity with MS PowerBI applications for business data management
Pay
$101,000 – $120,000 / year. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience and considered with the internal peer group.

Schedule
This position is eligible for a flexible work arrangement (hybrid: 4 days on-site, 1 day remote). Occasional domestic travel (5%).
