About the role

Northrop Grumman Aeronautic Systems is seeking a Staff Engineer-Reliability to join our diverse team in Melbourne, FL. This full-time, onsite position leads reliability engineering initiatives to improve uptime, reduce failure risk, and optimize lifecycle performance of critical operational assets. The role drives data-informed decision-making across maintenance, operations, and program planning, reporting to Product Support leadership to ensure requirements meet Program objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reliability subject matter expert advice on assigned program.
  • Review and disposition of system drawings in CAD, NX, Solidworks, specifications, and other engineering technical data (Northrop Grumman, Supplier, and Government furnished).
  • Perform detailed review and development of technical data to support Reliability Centered Maintenance assessments of avionics systems and complete airframes.
  • Develop models for meeting MTTR and mission timeline requirements.
  • Interface between the reliability organization and other functional elements of the capture program.
  • Advise Systems Engineers regarding their responsibilities in accordance with the Reliability Program.
  • Define resources needed to perform reliability requirements and interface with other reliability-related disciplines.
  • Participate in reliability engineering reviews.
  • Create Basis of Estimates for capture efforts for the reliability discipline.
  • Conduct independent reliability analysis as deemed necessary.
  • Perform analysis of design solution reliability under provided requirements.
  • Work with multiple teams and cross-functional departments.
  • Compile reports, plans, and presentations for project leaders.

Requirements

  • 12 years of experience with a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM); 10 years with a Master’s; 8 years with a PhD.
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis, FRACAS, FMEA/FMECA, or related Reliability Engineering work.
  • Experience reading and understanding technical data (e.g., Technical Orders, Engineering Drawings, Parts Lists, Bills of Material, Engineering Specifications).
  • High degree of initiative and advanced organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance standards without supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fluid environment with diverse stakeholders.
  • Understanding of logistic elements: maintainability, supportability, and reliability.
  • Understanding of CAMEO requirement management.
  • Experience in aviation maintenance, maintenance planning, manufacturing, or design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance or Top Secret clearance.
  • Practical hands-on experience performing: Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, FRACAS, ESS, Reliability Testing, Root Cause Analysis, FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, sparing analysis, and related engineering work.
  • Experience with or exposure to digital design initiatives and solutions, including Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model Based Sustainment (MBS).
  • Experience using CAMEO Enterprise Architecture.
  • Experience with Life Cycle Cost Analysis and Modeling/Simulation.
  • Minimum 3 years of technical experience in Logistics Engineering (Reliability / Maintainability / Sustainability).
  • Understanding of S-Series Standards and/or Mil-STD 1388 (defunct).
  • Significant experience in military, government, commercial aerospace industry (e.g., aviation/equipment maintenance, aircraft operations, or commercial industrial technology companies).
  • Knowledge of Military Specifications, Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs), Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), and other related technical and contractual documents.
  • Experience in completing detailed risk analysis and Basis of Estimates (BOE).
  • Prior experience with Capture Development / Capture Teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Pay

Primary salary range: $139,000.00 – $208,600.00. The range represents a general guideline; base salary offers consider the scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
