Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer – Fraud Prevention to serve as a senior technical leader and platform architect for large-scale fraud prevention engineering systems. In this role, you will drive technical strategy, architect ultra-low-latency backend services, optimize high-throughput infrastructure, develop real-time data processing pipelines, and establish engineering standards across multiple teams. You will work closely with engineering leaders, senior developers, product teams, and stakeholders to build highly available and scalable platforms capable of detecting and preventing fraud in real time.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical leader across multiple fraud prevention engineering teams.
- Define and drive platform architecture and long-term technical strategy.
- Architect highly available, ultra-low-latency backend services.
- Design and optimize high-throughput fraud detection and rules engines.
- Build scalable distributed systems capable of processing massive real-time data volumes.
- Design efficient database access patterns, partitioning strategies, and caching architectures.
- Develop pipelines for parallel execution of real-time feature computations and aggregations.
- Optimize multi-cloud database infrastructure for performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Establish engineering standards for reliability, observability, security, and performance.
- Mentor senior engineers and provide technical guidance across engineering teams.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical architecture with business objectives.
- Drive architectural decisions from initial design through production deployment.
Required Skills
- Advanced expertise in Distributed Systems.
- Strong proficiency in Backend Engineering and Platform Architecture.
- Experience designing Ultra-Low-Latency Systems.
- Hands-on expertise with Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, SQS, or Pub/Sub.
- Strong knowledge of Real-Time Stream Processing.
- Experience with Document, Wide-Column, and Relational Databases.
- Advanced understanding of database partitioning, indexing, and caching strategies.
- Strong knowledge of Cloud and Multi-Cloud Architecture.
- Expertise in system reliability, observability, and performance optimization.
- Strong understanding of high-throughput and highly available architectures.
- Excellent architectural communication and technical problem-solving skills.
Fraud Prevention & Platform Engineering Experience
- Hands-on experience architecting large-scale real-time platforms.
- Experience building systems that process high-volume transactional or event data.
- Strong understanding of real-time fraud detection and risk-processing architectures.
- Experience designing high-throughput rules engines and decisioning systems.
- Expertise in real-time feature computation and data aggregation pipelines.
- Experience implementing scalable caching and data-access strategies.
- Strong knowledge of event-driven and distributed system architectures.
- Experience building reliable systems with strict latency and availability requirements.
- Familiarity with financial technology, fraud prevention, AML, or risk platforms is highly preferred.
Managerial Experience
- Act as the technical leader and architect across multiple engineering teams.
- Mentor senior engineers and support technical career development.
- Drive cross-team architectural alignment and engineering standards.
- Translate complex business requirements into scalable technical architectures.

- Architect and maintain highly available distributed production systems.

- Implement database partitioning, caching, and performance optimization strategies.
- Build monitoring, observability, and reliability frameworks.
- Support multi-cloud and globally distributed infrastructure.
- Troubleshoot complex production and performance issues.
- Improve developer productivity through platform engineering practices.
- Ensure scalability, resilience, fault tolerance, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proven experience operating at a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Solution/Platform Architect level.
- Extensive experience designing highly available and distributed systems.
- Proven experience with large-scale backend platforms and real-time data processing.
- Experience within FinTech, Fraud Prevention, Payments, Financial Services, or Risk Technology is highly preferred.
