Position Summary

The Staff Firmware Engineer shall participate in research and product development activities ranging from product concept through transfer to manufacturing. This position will apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices for software development of hardware platforms within medical devices.

Essential Functions

  • Develops embedded bare-metal firmware, which interacts with hardware and software platforms.

  • Development activities include definition of requirements, design, system architecture, and verification and validation.

  • Support hardware integration across multiple systems, debug and analyze device issues and field returns.

  • Develop firmware in a regulated environment in accordance with internal operating procedures and external standards and regulations.

  • Counsels cross-functional reviews of software development at appropriate times in the development cycle.

  • Significantly self-directed. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Proactively identifies areas of developmental risk and communicates these to management accordingly.

  • Responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and directing significant engineering development or a number of small projects with many complex features, utilizing internal and external resources.

  • Guides the transition of advanced technologies into final products.

  • Works closely with other product development team members to assure that their designs interface properly with other system components and to ensure that the overall system meets its performance requirements.

  • Assesses new technologies via reviews of the state of the art or by performing proof of concept work.

  • Contributes to the intellectual property base of the Company via active communication of new concepts to Management.

  • Works in accordance with quality system procedures and actively enforces its objectives.

  • Adheres to the letter and spirit of the company Code of Conduct, the AdvaMed Code, MedTech Code, and all other company policies.

  • Ensures Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your role.

  • Represents the company in a professional manner and uphold the highest standards of ethical business practices and socially responsible conduct in all interactions with other employees, customers, suppliers, and other third parties.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar degree.

  • Must have 7-10 years of proven experience in software design for embedded systems.

  • Knowledge of C/C++ and an understanding of embedded firmware development is required.

  • Experience in working in a high-reliability field such as automotive, aeronautical or medical is highly preferred.

  • Experience in working with hardware platforms and interpreting electrical schematics.

  • Hands-on experience with electrical instruments such as oscilloscopes, bus analyzers and logic analyzers is also required.

  • Hands-on experience with ARM microcontrollers and real-time operating systems is preferred.

  • Functional familiarity with the FDA Submission process, ISO Requirements and QSR requirements are also preferred.
