Intertek, a leading provider of quality and safety solutions, is seeking a Staff Engineer-EMC (2nd Shift) to join our Electrical team in Boxborough, Massachusetts. This role supports international trade and regulatory product testing across industries such as Medical, Lighting, Renewable Energy, HVACR, Appliances & Electronics, Hazardous Locations, Industrial Equipment, Life Safety & Security, IT & Telecom Equipment.

About the role

The Staff Engineer-EMC (2nd Shift) supports project work, conducts and attends audits, mentors and trains staff, and participates in technical standard development. This position requires at least 15% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply UL, CSA, AHRI, ASHRAE, and DOE requirements to equipment under testing (EUT).
  • Develop test plans, evaluation strategies, and certification pathways aligned to project scope and customer needs.
  • Coordinate equipment and design test stands to accomplish project scope and meet customer needs.
  • Troubleshoot issues with equipment under testing (EUT).
  • Witness or conduct testing related to Performance and Energy Efficiency requirements.
  • Review Test Reports written by other engineers.
  • Support laboratory development, including upgrade of psychrometric chambers in accordance with the latest regulatory testing requirements, including expansion of certification scope.
  • Develop and execute training plans for less tenured engineers as well as provide mentorship for their project work.
  • Participate in standard development committees and report upcoming regulation changes to Chief Engineer(s).
  • Conduct audits at customer facilities and other Intertek locations.
  • Participate in audits at the Intertek Plano facility and assist in resolving identified non-conformities.
  • Travel to customer facilities and factories as required.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Electrical Engineering degree considered with relevant experience).
  • 10+ years of related industry experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, standards, and technical specifications.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, as business needs dictate.
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with programming and operating psychrometric chambers.
  • Experience diagnosing issues with HVAC Equipment and implementing resolutions.
  • Familiarity with standards such as AHRI 140, AHRI 210/240, AHRI 340/360, AHRI 840, AHRI 920, AHRI 1230, AHRI 1380, and ASHRAE 37.
  • Project coordination or customer-facing technical experience.
