Role Purpose
The focus will be on the development of robust process machine systems that provide significant competitive advantage to Corning’s businesses, and/or enable new products and product lines (prototype and production capable machines).
Key Responsibilities
- Experience in successful development and delivery of first/next generation process machine systems through early stages of innovation and into manufacturing.
- Strong interest and skills in mechanical design, with broad knowledge of materials, fabrication methods (machining, forming, molding etc.), assembly and joining methods, GD&T, tolerance stack ups/error budgets.
- Knowledge in machine components such as slides, spindles, conveyance, handling and fixturing are desired.
- Excellent understanding and recall of engineering fundamentals, and the ability to deploy those fundamentals into successful designs. Proposes solutions and/or invents, applies, develops, or extends a state-of-the-art technology.
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling (Solid Works preferred), and use of simulation modules to optimize designs and/or demonstrate feasibility (finite element, computational fluid dynamics etc.).
- Able to work effectively in highly ambiguous situations.
- Understand how to integrate commercially available technologies and processes such as robotics, material addition and removal, dispensing, and automation equipment into robust process manufacturing solutions.
- Able to effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of machine system implementation.
- Able to apply decision making and problem-solving skills to review facts and weigh options using a systematic approach to solve problems.
- Influences peers, team(s), and management, and provides technical guidance. Creates objectives and uses creative approaches to support projects or create project opportunities.
- Utilize internal lab facilities and equipment to develop proof of concept prototypes.
Required Education
- Mechanical, Mechatronics or similar Engineering discipline (B.S. minimum) with minimum of 5 years of engineering experience, 10+ years preferred.
- Demonstrated project leadership experience with ability to achieve results through a highly matrixed project team.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical content to broad audiences and provide concise project strategies, resources needs, and status updates.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, & Inventor)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desired Experiences
- Technical experience in a Corning division
- Experience in designing and building process equipment
- Knowledge of Corning’s manufacturing processes
- Track record of documenting Intellectual Property
