About the role

Ares is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of technology solutions powering the firm’s global credit investment platform. This highly hands-on role will serve as a senior individual contributor within the Credit Technology Engineering team, responsible for building scalable applications, APIs, data services, and platform capabilities across the credit investment lifecycle, including deal origination, underwriting, portfolio monitoring, risk management, and investment analytics.

The successful candidate will contribute directly to software development while partnering with the Credit Engineering Lead on technical design, implementation standards, platform modernization, and software delivery best practices. This individual will collaborate closely with Product Management, Credit Investment Professionals, Portfolio Management teams, Investment Operations, Data & AI teams, and broader Investment Technology stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support software solutions supporting credit investment workflows across front-end, backend, integration, and data layers.
  • Build and maintain APIs, services, and user-facing applications supporting investment workflows, including deal sourcing, pipeline management, underwriting, investment committee processes, portfolio monitoring, risk analytics, and investment reporting.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, design reviews, troubleshooting, and production support activities.
  • Drive implementation of scalable and maintainable software solutions aligned with engineering standards.
  • Partner with the VP, Credit Engineering Lead on architecture, system design, and technology decisions for distributed and microservices-based architectures.
  • Contribute to technical roadmaps, platform modernization initiatives, and evaluation of new technologies.
  • Develop cloud-native applications utilizing Kubernetes, containerized solutions, and cloud platform services.
  • Implement platform observability, logging, monitoring, and operational support capabilities.
  • Design and develop APIs, integration services, and event-driven architectures using messaging and event streaming technologies.
  • Support integration across investment platforms, reporting platforms, operational systems, and enterprise data environments.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management.
  • Maintain high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and operational support.
  • Mentor Associate and Analyst software engineers through code reviews, design guidance, and technical coaching.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Investment Technology, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient, and high-performing technology solutions.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5-8 years of software engineering experience delivering enterprise applications.
  • Experience contributing to large-scale software delivery initiatives in complex business environments.
  • Experience operating within Agile software development organizations.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional technical and business teams.
  • Experience supporting production applications and participating in operational support activities.
  • Financial services experience strongly preferred, particularly in investment management, capital markets, lending, credit, or alternative asset management.
  • Experience mentoring developers or providing technical leadership.

Skills

  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Java/Python and modern backend development frameworks; strong proficiency in React and TypeScript; experience with relational and non-relational databases; strong understanding of APIs, integration patterns, and service-oriented architectures; experience with microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, messaging, and streaming technologies; experience with cloud-native application development, Kubernetes, and containerized platforms.
  • Software Engineering Excellence: Strong understanding of software design patterns and engineering best practices; experience with SDLC, CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps tooling; strong debugging, performance tuning, and troubleshooting capabilities; focus on maintainability, quality, documentation, and operational excellence.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Strong technical communication skills; ability to mentor junior engineers and influence technical decisions; ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and business teams; strong ownership mentality and delivery focus.
  • Functional Familiarity: DealCloud or other pipeline management systems; credit systems such as Allvue or WSO.

Reporting relationships

Reports to VP, Credit Engineering Lead (New York). No direct reports initially; may provide technical mentorship and project leadership to junior engineers.

Pay

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $215,000. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus.
