About the role
Join a mission-focused team dedicated to improving patient outcomes in spine care. As a Staff Engineer in our R&D function within the Spine division, you'll design, develop, and lead projects for innovative spinal products.
Responsibilities
- Interface with surgeons and sales representatives to gather input and translate clinical needs into innovative product designs
- Independently design, develop, modify, and verify mechanical components, subsystems, and complex assemblies for medical devices
- Lead large projects and actively participate on multi-functional teams (R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management)
- Apply advanced knowledge of surgical procedures and design inputs to develop solutions that meet customer and clinical requirements
- Participate in and lead design reviews, risk management activities, and Voice of Customer sessions
- Create and refine engineering documentation, including Design History Files, drawings, models, and GD&T
- Support design controls, risk management, and other R&D procedures per the Quality Management System
- Conduct advanced prototyping, testing, and verification activities; develop test fixtures as needed
- Analyze and resolve complex product design issues using independent judgment
- Prepare technical information for invention disclosures and patent applications
- Mentor others on engineering best practices, CAD tools, and regulated industry standards
- Contribute to process improvements, DFM principles, and product development from concept through market launch
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s preferred)
- 4+ years of medical device product development experience
- Strong technical expertise in mechanical design, mechanical assemblies, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- High proficiency with parametric CAD software (Creo or SolidWorks preferred) and engineering drawings with GD&T
- Experience applying materials science and manufacturing processes to product design
- Demonstrated proficiency with design controls and working in a regulated industry (FDA, ISO 13485)
- Solid project management skills with the ability to manage timelines, budgets, and cross-functional deliverables
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to present technical information clearly
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while providing guidance to others

Pay
The typical pay range for this position is $128,000.00 - $136,000.00 annually, with potential for bonuses and incentives plus benefits. Final compensation is determined on a case-by-case basis and considers a variety of factors including experience level, technical expertise, and market conditions.
Schedule
Full-time position with up to 20% travel required.
