Staff Engineer, Advanced Thermal Modeling
About the role
The Global Advanced Digital Engineering team is Baltimore Aircoil Company’s (BAC) engine, combining domain SME, software, and automation expertise to build modular, scalable, and reusable engineering capability. The Staff Engineer, Advanced Thermal Modeling is responsible for developing and scaling thermal modeling capability in accordance with the overall thermal modeling strategy across BAC’s product and application space.
Responsibilities
- Develop and scale thermal modeling frameworks spanning unit-level physics and system-level performance across BAC’s cooling technologies
- Translate thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer knowledge into reusable models, simulation architectures, and prediction tools
- Implement and mature scalable modeling approaches aligned with defined standards
- Build and maintain unit and system-level models that integrate thermal performance, operating conditions, and cost-of-ownership metrics
- Own execution of model validation, including correlation between experimental test data and model predictions
- Lead and support lab and field testing activities to validate and refine models
- Support engagements with key internal stakeholders and external partners to develop unit and system-level performance and cost models
- Identify opportunities to improve thermal performance and product efficiency through modeling insights
- Develop and improve scalable simulation tools and workflows that increase throughput and consistency across BAC
- Monitor relevant emerging technologies, modeling techniques, and industry developments
- Communicate complex modeling results and engineering insights through structured reports, technical documentation, and presentations
Qualifications
The Staff Engineer, Advanced Thermal Modeling reports to the Principal Engineer, Advanced Thermal Modeling, and operates across BAC’s product portfolio, applications space, and global regions, requiring close coordination with NPI, CPI, Advanced Applications, and Global and Regional business teams.
Skills
- Strong foundation in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and psychrometrics
- Strong systems thinking, with ability to model interactions between components, systems, operating conditions, and performance outcomes
- Programming and modeling capability (e.g., MATLAB, EES, Python, C#/C++, VBA, or similar engineering tools)
- Experience with physics-based or equation-based modeling environments (e.g., Modelica/Dymola) and building/system simulation tools (e.g., EnergyPlus or similar)
- Effective communication skills, with ability to present technical concepts and results to diverse audiences

Pay
BAC Hiring Compensation Range $98,400 - $168,900
Schedule
Travel, both domestic and international, is expected up to 10% of the time. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the role.
