Staff Embedded Software Engineer
About the role
This is a hands-on, senior individual-contributor role (no direct reports). You will design and build the device-side software for our hybrid connectivity devices supporting ATSC 3.0 and cellular networks, and build the modular, reusable software platform and libraries at the core of our full product line. You will be the technical authority for embedded work, setting direction and making architecture decisions while spending most of your time in the code.
Responsibilities
- Design and build embedded software for hybrid connectivity devices (broadcast + cellular)
- Integrate ATSC 3.0 broadcast and cellular connectivity stacks into a unified, reusable multi-device software platform
- Implement device-side networking, data handling, and failover logic across multiple delivery paths
- Build support for OTA updates, device provisioning, and lifecycle management at the firmware and software levels
- Partner with platform, network, and cloud teams to align device capabilities and integrate telemetry, control, and observability
- Work closely with hardware vendors to ensure tight hardware-software integration
- Support external partner integrations and SDK adoption
- Own and build the most critical components, and the testing systems and scripts that keep them solid
Requirements
Strong embedded software development in C/C++ on Linux, ideally with the Yocto Project, plus scripting (e.g., Python).
Proven track record designing modular, maintainable embedded architectures.
Solid experience with networking stacks and protocols (IP, TCP/UDP).
Hands-on experience integrating hardware and software systems, with a good understanding of key hardware components.
Strong debugging skills in resource-constrained, system-level environments.
Comfortable leading technical design and making architecture decisions as an individual contributor.
Experience in agile development environments, with the ability to plan and build testing systems and scripts.
An AI first mindset and an ability to solve and implement using AIs.
Bonus: broadcast technologies (e.g., ATSC 3.0) or cellular modules; multicast distribution and routing; building SDKs, libraries, or platforms for third-party developers; device management, OTA, or remote provisioning; IoT or large-scale device deployments; and security in embedded systems (secure boot, decryption workflows).
Qualifications
At EdgeBeam, we operate with a shared set of values: Customers First — We put our customers' objectives and pain points ahead of our own.
Dig Deep — We are technically curious and thorough in execution. We don’t cream skim.
Win Together — Collaboration is in our DNA.
Disagree & Commit — We welcome constructive conflict. Once we have made a decision, we are behind that decision 100%.
No Jerks — EdgeBeam is not a place for jerks.
