What To Expect

The R&D Test Systems Engineering (TSE) team at Tesla is dedicated to creating scalable test solutions that enhance product development cycles through the use of Tesla's technology. This team supports both vehicle and energy programs across R&D, engineering, and manufacturing, offering opportunities to contribute to Tesla's mission of accelerating the transition to sustainable energy.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, validate, and integrate end-to-end electrical hardware test solutions to support product development, testing, and manufacturing teams across Tesla (power electronics, motors, powertrain, battery, etc.).

  • Own PCB electronics and electrical sub-systems – specifications, design, prototyping, validation testing, and system integration.

  • Create electrical schematics, BOM, harness drawings, system diagrams, etc.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups within TSE and end-users across Tesla on test equipment bring-up, commissioning, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting field issues at various Tesla locations globally.

  • Create documentation for test equipment certification, operation, and maintenance.

  • Coach and mentor other Engineers, Interns, and Technicians to develop their technical skills and experience.

What You'll Bring

  • Education and Experience: Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Technical Skills: Hands-on hardware design, testing, and debugging experience in power electronics (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC converters) and low-power analog, digital circuits.

  • Software Tools: Experience with PCB layout with signal integrity, noise, and EMI considerations (Altium experience preferred); modeling and circuit simulation tools such as MATLAB-Simulink, LTspice, etc.; embedded programming (microcontrollers, DSP, etc.) and digital communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, SPI, I2C, etc.).

  • System Knowledge: Strong knowledge of dynos, motors, drives, power systems, and switchgear components; good understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM), FMEA tools/process, and quality control.

  • Laboratory Equipment: Experience with laboratory test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, high-voltage differential probes, current probes, power analyzers, data acquisition modules, etc.; experience with test automation and data analysis in NI LabVIEW, Python, etc.

  • Enterprise Tools: Experience with enterprise tools such as Jira, Confluence, MS Office, etc.

Benefits

  • Competitive Pay: Starting salary range from $91,600 to $276,000 annually, with additional cash and stock awards.
