Staff Editor
About the Role
Keystone seeks a seasoned writer and journalistic thinker with social media expertise to launch a storytelling initiative that amplifies Keystone’s work, impact, and the narratives behind it for clients and the public. The Staff Editor will embed within Keystone like a journalist, uncovering storytelling opportunities across the firm’s work—from AI and antitrust cases to engagements with world-renowned economists and policy experts. Responsibilities include interviewing experts, developing social strategies for content (e.g., podcasts, events), and producing a weekly cadence of original editorial and social media content for LinkedIn, newsletters, the website, and a soon-to-launch podcast.
This role requires a self-starter with a reporter’s instinct, comfort with ambiguity, and an entrepreneurial mindset. You’ll often be the sole editorial voice in the room, collaborating closely with the CEO on ghostwriting, briefing documents, and interview preparation. The position is a full-time contract role based in Keystone’s New York (SoHo) office, with potential for conversion to full-time and some travel required.
Responsibilities
- Run Keystone’s LinkedIn account: write posts, conceptualize visuals, schedule content, monitor engagement, and adhere to best practices (e.g., optimal posting times, hashtags).
- Maintain a robust weekly editorial calendar and set up analytics systems to track progress.
- Develop and produce three monthly newsletters:
- Take over the existing KeystoneNext alumni newsletter.
- Create two new newsletters: one for experts and one for clients.
- Write copy, manage the CMS, source imagery, and adapt newsletters into social media posts.
- Handle general editorial and production duties, such as:
- Refining website copy and managing the “News” section (e.g., updating articles, writing headlines, sourcing teaser art).
- Preparing briefing documents and interview questions for the CEO when moderating panels.
- Ghostwriting op-eds and providing feedback on video/podcast content.
- Produce off-the-cuff content, including photos, short-form videos, and snappy marketing copy.
- Leverage AI tools for tasks like weekly trend reports on AI/antitrust and tracking industry news.
- Build relationships across Keystone to uncover stories, working closely with the CEO on initiatives like ghostwriting and interview preparation.
Requirements
- 5–10 years of writing experience with a reporter’s instinct for storytelling.
- Ability to translate highly technical or dense concepts into accurate, engaging, and readable copy.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, editorial calendars, and executive communications (e.g., weekly updates, quarterly reviews).
- Expertise in LinkedIn and social media best practices, including crafting compelling social copy.
- Startup mentality: comfortable being a “jane-of-all-trades” and adapting to varied tasks.
- Proficiency with AI tools to streamline workflows (e.g., trend reports, analytics tracking).
- Exceptional interpersonal skills: ability to build relationships, ask probing questions, and navigate a corporate environment as a journalist.
- Curiosity, proactivity, and comfort working autonomously in an ambiguous, fast-paced setting.
Pay
Annual salary range: $100,000–$150,000 USD. Actual compensation will depend on skills, experience, and qualifications. Additional benefits include an annual discretionary bonus, 401k contribution, and a competitive benefits package.
