About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Educator is the clinical expert in evidence-based nursing practice and patient care within a specialty care setting. This position functions both autonomously and in collaboration with other health care providers to manage, support, and coordinate the care of acute and/or critically ill patients.

Responsibilities

• Oversee clinical staff development in the St. Mary’s Health Care System Emergency Departments.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to design, coordinate, and implement new hire orientation curriculum that meets SMHS learner goals, objectives, and position-specific competency requirements.
• Assess unit challenges, opportunities, and practice gap impacts to new hires, experienced staff transitioning roles, or interprofessional teams through active collaboration between the learner and the Staff Development Coordinator.
• Develop actions and processes in clinical, classroom, and/or online environments to address scope of practice through onboarding and orientation, competency management, role development, preceptor training, evidence-based practice, and collaborative partnerships.
• Provide leadership in advancing the practice of nursing to achieve quality and cost-effective patient outcomes as well as lead multidisciplinary groups in designing and implementing innovative alternative solutions that address system problems and/or patient care issues.
• Provide leadership in advancing the practice of nursing, professional education, and certification.
• Facilitate ongoing trauma-specific clinical training (such as TNCC, ATLS, and ATCN) for nursing and ancillary staff.
• Provide clinical teaching and supervision and direct patient assignment for new and experienced staff.
• Participate in performance evaluation and management including verbal coaching and counseling.

Requirements

• Current, active licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Georgia.
• Graduation from an NLM accredited school of nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Minimum of 5 years’ nursing and clinical education experience.
• Maintains BLS, ACLS, and PALS (or must obtain PALS or ENPC within 6 months of hire).

• Able to function independently with minimal supervision.
