Staff Desense Engineer

Snap Inc. · Boulder, CO · 4 wk ago
Information Technology$229k–$343k/yrFull-time

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and implement innovative RF desense solutions (hardware and software) to ensure robust system performance
  • Collaborate with RF, antenna, electrical, mechanical, and software teams to integrate RF systems into Spectacles products and ensure compliance with performance standards
  • Conduct rigorous lab and OTA testing of RF systems, perform sensitivity and coexistence testing (LTE, 5G, WiFi, GNSS, Bluetooth, etc.), and validate performance against industry standards
  • Characterize desense caused by internal aggressors (CPU, memory, power converters, displays, etc.) and external interferers. Trace root causes using probes, shielding tests, grounding checks, and layout reviews
  • Identify system performance bottlenecks (impacts) due to antenna, RF board, assembly dependencies, multi-radio operation, etc. Develop and execute coexistence test plans and generate validation reports
  • Author clear and comprehensive documentation

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong RF, antenna, EMI, EMC, and coexistence engineering fundamentals
  • Knowledge of wireless communication standards including WiFi, BT, BLE, GPS, 4G LTE, 5G, etc.
  • Knowledge of board level design strategies for desense and EMI minimization, signal integrity, and isolation
  • Experience working with systems that include high-speed digital interfaces such as MIPI CSI / DSI, PCIe, SDIO / eMMC, UFS, etc.
  • Proven ability to use common RF and electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and power supplies
  • Understanding of RF PCB design, associated constraints, impedance matching, and filter tuning
  • Proficiency with RF simulation/design tools (e.g., CST Microwave Studio, Keysight ADS, XFdtd, etc.)
  • Excellent process development and documentation skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field such as electrical engineering, computer science, or physics or equivalent years of experience
  • Ability to travel including domestic and international (up to 15%)
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical, RF, and/or computer engineering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Wireless, Electromagnetics, Electrical engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of ESD principles for consumer electronics
