Staff Dentist

About the Role

The Staff Dentist is responsible for the provision of dental services in a Patient Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct dental services meeting established productivity expectations.
• Conduct comprehensive dental examinations, review x-rays, medical, and dental histories to determine diagnoses.
• Document visits accurately using appropriate templates and record relevant data for diagnosis.
• Attain budgeted visits and meet clinical care measures.
• Lock records within a 72-hour window.
• Perform diagnostic, preventive, and restorative oral procedures.
• Evaluate the health and condition of patients’ teeth to diagnose dental conditions.
• Educate patients on preventing dental problems and maintaining oral health.
• Discuss treatment methods and options with patients to determine the best course of action.
• Refer patients to specialists (orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists) for advanced procedures when appropriate.
• Provide excellent customer service and care, demonstrating courtesy and understanding of patients’ needs.
• Supply patients with educational materials and resources tailored to their health literacy needs.
• Monitor and manage patient status as measured by relevant clinical quality measures.
• Remain aware of wait times during daily workflow and promote participation in daily huddles.
• Incorporate ancillary health team members in managing patient and family care.
• Assist in assuring clinical procedures and maintaining up-to-date clinical protocols.
• Observe and ensure OSHA and Standard Precautions are maintained.
• Interact with professional medical staff to render comprehensive care to mutual patients.
• Complete chart and peer review responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Assist supervisors in planning and implementing new dental department programs.
• Participate in Network Health Fairs, screenings, and community outreach events.
• Provide input for performance evaluations of support staff and quality improvement initiatives.
• Assist the NDD/CDD with reviewing and updating clinical policies and procedures.
• Provide feedback and guidance to dental residents and dental assistant externs.
• Participate meaningfully in site and provider meetings.
• Participate in "On Call" coverage as scheduled.
• Meet Network and credentialing expectations for licensure and employment.
• Adhere to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy, recognizing regular attendance as an essential function.
• Ability to work at any FHCN location as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Effective June 1, 2026, all individuals hired into the role must meet one of the following:

• Completion of a Master's Degree or Doctoral-level Degree program with a recognized major and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; or
• Successful attainment and maintenance of a valid, active professional license required for the role, issued by the appropriate governing or regulatory body.

Performance of duties requires extensive formal training in Dental studies, typically a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.

Technical Skills

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, including linking multiple files and embedding objects.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including creating and managing databases, generating standardized reports, and linking worksheets/workbooks.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, including developing presentations with embedded objects, transitions, and other elements.

Licenses & Certifications

• Licensed as a Dentist in the state of California.

Communications Skills

• Effectively communicate professional opinions and analysis of collected information.
• Determine appropriate methods of presenting information using tables, graphs, charts, and other visual forms.
• Prepare and execute presentations to large groups.

Pay

$178,404.65 - $285,447.44 annually, plus significant additional earning potential through outpatient productivity and quality pay, generous retention payments, shift differential pay, and extra shift pay.

Sign-on bonus/relocation assistance, annual CME days, and reimbursement are also available.
