Staff Chaplain
About the Role
The Staff Chaplain at Tri-Cities Chaplaincy provides compassionate spiritual care and emotional support to hospice patients, families, and caregivers as well as contracted facilities, their staff, and the community, while managing an active patient caseload. The Chaplain offers individualized spiritual assessments and interventions that address end-of-life, grief, and bereavement, with sensitivity to diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Additionally, the Chaplain contributes to community crisis intervention and provides debriefings and support sessions for staff and community members. This position requires collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care, while upholding the mission and values of Tri-Cities Chaplaincy.
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate spiritual care and emotional support to hospice patients, families, and caregivers.
- Manage an active patient caseload and conduct individualized spiritual assessments and interventions.
- Address end-of-life, grief, and bereavement needs with sensitivity to diverse cultural and religious backgrounds.
- Contribute to community crisis intervention and provide debriefings and support sessions for staff and community members.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.
- Participate in education and outreach activities to promote agency programs, including hospice care, advanced planning, and bereavement services.
- Comply with agency policies, procedures, and practices, and protect patient and agency information per HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain reliable personal transportation, a valid driver’s license, and vehicle insurance per state requirements.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in divinity, theology, psychology, or a related discipline from an accredited school of higher education.
- Demonstrated commitment to obtaining board certification as a chaplain, with progress reviewed annually.
- Completion of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) training or must be obtained within twenty-four (24) months of hire date.
- Competency in Electronic Documentation.
- Available to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as part of the on-call rotation.
- This position is designated as safety-sensitive and will require pre-employment drug testing, which includes cannabis testing in WA State.
- Ability to report to assigned work location(s) as scheduled and maintain consistent, reliable attendance.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, as driving is an essential function of this role.
- Must meet insurance eligibility requirements.
- Read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
- Satisfy state and agency health requirements by providing proof of immunization, declinations, or approved accommodations as applicable.
- Pass criminal background and drug screenings.
- Meet the physical and environmental requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Complete agency and departmental orientation and required training programs.
- Maintain current licensure(s) and certifications(s) required for the role.
Pay
Hiring Range: $26.53/hour - $36.07/hour
$3,000 Sign-on Bonus: New hires are eligible to receive a $3,000 bonus upon successful completion of 90 days of continuous employment in good standing.
Schedule
Anticipated Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm, with availability for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as part of the on-call rotation.

- Bereavement Leave: Three (3) days for the loss of an immediate family member. Two (2) days for the loss of a household pet or service animal.
- Community Volunteer Day (Yay Day): One (1) paid day annually for volunteer service, granted each January.

- Air Ambulance: Discounted rate for Life Flight.
- Retirement: 401(K) Plan: Employees may contribute upon hire; employer matching of up to 5% begins the following January or June depending on hire date after 1 year of employment.
- Mileage Reimbursement: $0.72 per mile, for eligible positions. (Subject to change based on IRS rates)
- Premium Pay: Bilingual (Spanish) pay premium (subject to proficiency verification through ALTA language services). Certification-based premium pay, as applicable and approved.
- Tuition Assistance: Up to $5,250 annually after one (1) year of employment.
