Role Overview
This is a Staff Brand Designer role at Mercury, a fintech company focused on helping startups spend more time building and less time banking. The ideal candidate will set the standard for Mercury's brand, oversee complex design projects, and contribute to defining visual excellence.
Responsibilities
- Set and uphold the craft standard for Mercury's brand
- Lead the most technically complex and high-visibility brand design projects
- Partner with creative leadership to define and execute visual standards
- Provide hands-on craft oversight across Brand Studio output
- Commission and art-direct external creatives
- Develop brand system documentation and decision-making frameworks
- Mentor junior designers through critique and feedback
- Collaborate with brand strategists, copywriters, PMMs, and leadership
- Shape the use of AI in Brand Studio
Requirements
- A portfolio demonstrating mastery of typography, layout, color, and composition
- A clear and deeply held aesthetic point of view
- Fluency in brand systems
- 7–10+ years of brand design experience, including high-craft environments
- Experience operating at a staff level
- Proficiency in Figma
- Strong verbal and presentation skills
- Judgment on AI's place in high-craft design
- Curiosity and restraint in design
