Staff Attorney – Portland Regional Office
Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) is seeking a bilingual (Spanish-speaking) attorney to serve domestic and sexual violence survivors in Multnomah County. This hard-funded position focuses on a family law caseload, including restraining orders, divorce, and custody matters, with opportunities to expand into other civil litigation areas related to survivor rights. The role is primarily funded by Oregon’s State Justice Reinvestment Grant Program and is restricted to survivors of crime with legal matters arising in Multnomah County. A partial remote work option is available.

LASO is a non-profit organization representing low-income clients in civil cases. The Portland Regional Office serves a poverty population of over 220,000 across Multnomah, Clackamas, Hood River, Sherman, and Wasco counties. LASO is committed to advocacy strategies with broad community impact and has adopted a race equity agenda to guide its work with clients and internal operations. Responsibilities
- Conduct trauma-informed consultations and provide timely advice for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
- Represent survivors in high-lethality matters, including restraining orders, custody, divorce, and other civil legal needs.
- Complete quarterly grant reporting alongside the Regional Director.
- Serve as a liaison to community-based organizations, particularly those serving Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and immigrant communities, to facilitate referrals, identify legal issues, conduct trainings, and attend outreach events.
Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
- Current member of the Oregon State Bar or eligible for admission through reciprocity.
- Proven interest in and commitment to advocacy for the legal rights of low-income Oregonians, particularly domestic and sexual violence survivors.
- Experience providing trauma-informed services to survivors.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to anti-bias principles, cultural competency, and addressing systemic racism and oppression.
- Enthusiasm, creativity, good judgment, initiative, and ability to work collaboratively in a high-volume environment.
Pay
Compensation is based on a 35-hour work week. Salary ranges are as follows:
- $66,200 – $73,700 for 0-5 years’ experience.
- $75,200 – $81,200 for 6-10 years’ experience.
- $82,700 – $105,200 for 11-30 years’ experience.
An additional $4,300 to $5,700 annually is available for bilingual staff, depending on proficiency.
