Staff Attorney I or II - Elder Justice
About the role
Bet Tzedek Legal Services seeks an Elder Law Staff Attorney to join the agency’s Seniors, Dependent and Caregiver Direct Services team. The position supports the team’s direct services, elder law advocacy, and outreach.
Responsibilities
- Provide victim/client-centered, trauma-informed direct legal services, including screening and legal assessment, advice and counsel, brief service, and direct representation to older/dependent adult victims of elder abuse, probate conservatorship, defense of conservatorship, public benefits, and estate planning;
- Engage in outreach to community members and provide technical assistance to community partners;
- Engage in policy advocacy;
- Train and engage with volunteers and pro-bono attorneys for effective placement of matters;
- Participate in weekly case review meetings and support team grant deliverables;
- Effective case management, data entry, and compliance with agency policies;
- Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
- Active member of the California State Bar in good standing (required);
- At least one (1) year (Attorney I) or five (5) years practicing attorney (Attorney II) (required);
- At least three (3) years of experience in elder law and advocacy (Attorney II) (required);
- Proficiency with NetDocuments or other web-based document management system (preferred);
- Proficiency with case management systems (Legal Server) (preferred);
- Previous experience in non-profit and/or government environment (preferred);
- Previous litigation experience (Attorney 2) (required);

Salary
Attorney I: $75,395.03 - $85,281.96 (DOE/DOQ)
Attorney II: $88,717.53- $98,673.74 (DOE/DOQ)
