About the role
The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for two Project Managers within our Facilities Design & Construction department. The Project Manager reports to the Director of Design & Construction and works with consultant architects, engineers, State University Construction Fund (SUCF) staff, contractors, campus designers, project managers, energy/sustainability staff, and campus clients on the design and construction management of campus projects. The role involves providing feedback to support optimal design solutions while keeping projects within budget and minimizing construction impacts on campus operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage designated building/site projects from design through construction and closeout, including budget and schedule tracking, and project contract administration (RFIs, submittals, change orders, payment applications, closeout documentation).
- Develop minor project design & construction documents under the supervision of senior design staff.
- Provide pre-design support for major capital projects, including sharing archival campus documents, coordinating consultant site access, and conducting constructability reviews.
- Observe and report on construction progress of SUCF-managed projects to campus stakeholders.
- Maintain department archives after project closeout, upkeep of campus standard documents, and master building & site plans.
- Integrate sustainability considerations at all project stages to help the campus meet carbon reduction goals.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in commercial building design and/or construction.
- OR Associate’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial building design and/or construction.
- OR Relevant construction management experience of at least 8 years managing multi-trade, large-value commercial capital construction projects from bid through completion.
- Deep knowledge of industry standards and New York State building codes.
- Demonstrated experience with institutional and/or commercial building construction management.
- Ability to comprehend construction drawings and specifications and prepare pertinent review comments.
- Ability to collaborate productively with multidisciplinary team members, consultant groups, and stakeholders on a variety of concurrent projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- New York State Code Enforcement Official certification.
- Proficiency with CAD, BIM, and/or GIS software.
- Estimating and project scheduling experience.
- Specification writing/reviewing experience.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and NFPA standards.
- Working knowledge of OSHA/PESH regulations.
