Staff Android Engineer - Rider Experience & Mobile Platform
About the role
As a Staff Android Engineer on the Rider App group in the Rider org, you will work on one of Lyft’s most critical Rider flows. The Rider App group is responsible for the app platform, quality, and the core rider-facing products that ensure a seamless experience and deepen Rider-Lyft relationships. You’ll solve complex problems, deliver significant impact, and uphold excellence for the Rider Android team through scalable architecture, reliable code, and safe, rapid releases. You will influence architecture, platform, processes, and culture while mentoring engineers across the group.
Responsibilities
- Work across product teams to design, build, and release features in the Lyft Rider application used by millions daily.
- Define the long-term roadmap and architecture based on technology and business needs.
- Oversee major changes to Android architecture.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to deliver a best-in-class user experience.
- Discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize developer efficiency.
- Mentor and support developers through code reviews, design feedback, and guidance.
- Solve complex real-time data transfer and synchronization issues.
- Implement pixel-perfect designs with advanced interactions.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience as an Android developer.
- Advanced knowledge of Java and Kotlin.
- Familiarity with RxJava.
- Deep understanding of architecture and design patterns.
- Experience shipping large-scale Android applications.
- Strong product sense and care for usability and design.
- Collaborative experience working with product managers, designers, and engineers.
Experience leading a technical team is a bonus.

Schedule
This role is in-office on a hybrid schedule — expected in the office 3 days per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays). Hybrid roles also allow working from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
Pay
The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $176,000 - $220,000, not inclusive of potential equity, bonus, or benefits.
