Staff Android Engineer, Android Platform

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Android Engineer, Android Platform to join the team of a leader in the Media space. This role will shape the technical direction of a large-scale Android platform that supports a broad consumer audience and multiple engineering teams. You will focus on improving developer experience, strengthening platform foundations, and raising the bar for performance, reliability, and engineering efficiency. The position also includes mentoring senior engineers and partnering across teams to drive technical alignment and delivery. Strong experience with modern Android development, platform infrastructure, and AI-assisted engineering workflows will be key to success. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $217,000 – $303,900 annually Responsibilities Lead technical decisions to scale the Android platform for a large consumer audience. Drive developer experience strategy to improve build and test cycles. Architect foundations for Android client health and observability to ensure performance and reliability. Champion AI-enhanced developer workflows. Provide mentorship and technical leadership to senior engineers, improving engineering standards. Qualifications 5+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years in Android applications. Proven track record of leading complex Android initiatives from inception to delivery. Experience setting technical direction for large Android codebases used by multiple teams. Deep expertise in Kotlin, Android lifecycle, and modern technologies like Jetpack Compose. Strong background in Android platform infrastructure, including shared libraries and core networking. Ability to influence and build consensus across diverse teams and communicate technical strategies effectively. Practical experience applying AI to engineering workflows with measurable benefits.
