Staff AI Engineer - US

About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Staff AI Engineer - US to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space. This role will shape the technical direction of a customer-facing AI initiative by partnering closely with Product and Engineering leadership. You will lead architectural decisions for AI-assisted experiences, guide the development of reliable generative AI systems, and translate ambiguous engineering challenges into production-ready solutions. The work will connect technical execution to customer outcomes through strong evaluation practices, scalable pipelines, and thoughtful prioritization of AI investments.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Pay

$170,000 – $210,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Shape the technical direction of the AI initiative by aligning with Product and Engineering leaders
• Lead architectural decisions for AI-assisted study design and adaptive conversations
• Take ownership of ambiguous AI engineering challenges from problem definition to production
• Design and build reliable generative AI applications and workflows
• Establish best practices for machine learning pipelines and data handling
• Set quality standards for AI systems through evaluation strategies and metrics
• Connect technical efforts to customer outcomes by prioritizing AI investments

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building and operating machine learning or AI systems in production
• Proven track record of leading complex engineering projects across multiple teams
• Strong programming skills in Python with direct production code contributions
• Experience designing production services and APIs, preferably with FastAPI
• Hands-on experience developing generative AI applications using large language models and RAG systems
• Familiarity with cloud systems management using AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD practices
• Solid understanding of machine learning lifecycle tools and observability frameworks
