Staff AI Engineer

About the role

This is a Staff/Principal IC position within the Accelerate team at SpotOn. The role is not a manager but a technical lead who will architect and implement AI-assisted engineering systems.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical standard for AI in code generation, review, testing, and task automation.
• Drive the architecture and implementation of three concurrent projects:
• Automated PR Review - Risk-tiered AI review pipeline with human review escalation.
• Android and API Test Automation - Fully automated test harness including virtual device provisioning, test execution, and AI-assisted failure analysis.
• AI Agent Swarms - Multi-agent pipeline for PRD to pull request creation.
• Measure everything: Define metrics framework, report to CTO monthly with quantified value delivered.
• Evangelize by shipping, not by presenting. Show time savings to skeptics.

Requirements

• 5+ years building developer tools, infrastructure, or platform engineering systems.
• 2+ years working deeply with LLMs and AI agents in production.
• Built multi-agent or agentic workflows.
• Hands-on with AI coding tools daily.
• Experience in fintech / payments / regulated industry.
• Experience with mobile / Android testing automation.
• Multi-agent system architecture experience.

• Opinions on which models are best for which tasks and ability to update those opinions based on experience.
• Personal workflow that makes you measurably faster and can teach it.
• Prototype in hours, not days.
• Context-switch across backend, mobile tooling, and AI/ML systems.
• Communicate technical progress in business terms.
• Healthy skepticism forged by real experience in AI failures.

Skills

• Languages: Kotlin (Android), Go, TypeScript, Python.
• Mobile: Android-native POS applications on dedicated hardware.
• Infrastructure: AWS, GitHub, CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
• AI Stack: Significant influence on tool selection.
