Staff AI Engineer
What You Can Expect
As a Staff AI Engineer, you will develop intelligent systems capable of reasoning, planning, and executing complex workflows. You will design agentic systems that manage intricate tasks, perform multi-step actions, and ensure safe interactions with tools and data. This role integrates LLM intelligence with system engineering, and your contributions will directly support the evolution of Zoom AI Companion into a more dependable and advanced assistant.

The team works across machine learning, distributed systems, and product engineering to deliver scalable, reliable, and intelligent solutions. Responsibilities
- Designing agentic systems that manage complex, multi-step tasks and autonomous decision-making workflows
- Building scalable, production-grade AI systems that integrate LLM intelligence with robust backend infrastructure
- Ensuring safe and reliable interactions between AI agents and external tools and data sources
- Contributing to the development of agent memory, personalisation, and quality evaluation systems
- Optimising performance across distributed systems to balance quality and latency at scale
- Collaborating across engineering, research, and product teams to deliver AI features used by millions of users
- Incorporating new AI developments rapidly to keep Zoom AI Companion competitive and at the forefront of the market
What We're Looking For
- Have 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering, backend/distributed systems engineering
- Have experience building scalable, production-grade AI or agent-based systems
- Demonstrate strong programming skills in one or more of: Python, TypeScript, Go, Java, C++, or Rust
- Have experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Have hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containers, and CI/CD pipelines
- Demonstrate an understanding of software architecture, observability, and performance optimisation
- Hold a qualification in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field
Preferred
- Have experience building or evaluating AI agents and agentic workflows, and familiarity with modern agent frameworks
- Demonstrate knowledge of prompt engineering, safety systems, and agent evaluation techniques
- Have experience with AI development tools such as Claude Code or Codex
Pay
Minimum Salary Range or On Target Earnings: $177,100.00. Maximum $387,500.00. In addition to the base salary and/or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration; base salary, bonus and equity value. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. There may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations.
