About the Role

The Staff Accountant works closely with Accounting, Treasury, Loan Operations, Servicing, and Secondary Marketing to ensure accurate reporting of mortgage banking transactions. Daily duties include accounts payable processing, wire processing, expense report management, and accounts receivable. The role also supports the monthly close process by preparing journal entries and reconciling accounts.

Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices, ensuring proper coding, approvals, and timely payment.
  • Maintain compliance with withholding requirements, including W-9 documentation and annual Form 1099 preparation and reporting.
  • Prepare bank, warehouse line, clearing account, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Manage cash balances at various warehouse banks to support daily loan purchases.
  • Support the warehouse wire team in daily funding wires.
  • Maintain the employee expense reporting system and related corporate credit card system, ensuring compliance with internal expense policies and banking controls.
  • Process and track invoices to correspondent lenders.
  • Support external audits, internal audits, and regulatory examinations by preparing requested documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and increase efficiency.
  • Assist with special projects and other accounting responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • One to three years of related experience required.
  • Mortgage banking or financial services experience required.
  • Experience with general ledger systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Experience processing accounts payable and maintaining vendor records.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with mortgage banking accounting, including loan-level accounting, warehouse transactions, and loan servicing transactions.
  • Knowledge and experience with Loan Vision or another mortgage banking accounting system preferred.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with a diverse population of customers, agencies, and employees both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk and listen; occasionally stand and walk; use hands and fingers, as well as reach with hands and arms; lift up to 35 pounds; and perform other physical duties associated with the job.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., as job duties demand.

Pay

$31.00 to $38.50 per hour, based on experience.
