About the role
Mary Kay is seeking an accountant to support inventory, COGS, reporting, close, and cross-functional finance. This role involves maintaining, reconciling, and analyzing general ledger account balances, preparing financial statements and reports, and collaborating with various functional areas.
Responsibilities
- Maintains, reconciles, and analyzes moderate to complex general ledger account balances.
- Investigates unusual transactions, finds root issues, and escalates when appropriate.
- Applies accounting and reporting rules, applies government regulations, and records financial transactions in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepares monthly journal entries, variance analysis, and account reconciliations related to sales, cost of sales, accounts receivable or inventory accounts.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and year-end schedules for internal and external audits for accounts and activities assigned.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial supply chain, or tax reports accurately and timely.
- Identifies irregularities and inconsistencies in data and performs root cause analysis to effectively address variances with business partners.
- Advises management of reasons for unusual trends, variances, or other pending issues.
- Collaborates with various functional areas to understand transactions and processes and to provide timely and meaningful feedback of performance to management.
- Utilizes Microsoft Excel, Tableau, or other software to provide customers with visual information (charts, tables) needed to highlight results and issues.
- Supports business partners in making informed decisions by performing ad hoc analysis as needed.
- Aids in report testing or with testing the financial aspects of ERP system upgrades, modifications, and implementations for the area.
- Independently performs research and analysis projects as independently identified or as requested by Management.
- Continuously assesses internal processes and implements changes that enable greater process efficiency or enhanced reporting.
Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of accounting required; supply chain finance, cost accounting, or inventory accounting preferred.
- Education: Bachelor/University Degree in Accounting required; CPA or CPA eligibility preferred.
- An understanding of GAAP and internal controls, the preparation of journal entries, the accounting treatment of manufacturing accounting transactions, and how to generate reports.
- Basic to intermediate understanding of integrated ERP systems and the relationship of Finance data and processes to other areas in the Company.
- Ability to understand the implications of system errors on unit costs or financial statements.
Technology
- Utilizes digital tools to perform tasks at a high level of productivity.
- Experience with Tableau, PeopleSoft Financials, and JD Edwards is highly beneficial.
- Strong knowledge of general ledger, query, and reporting.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially advanced Excel, is beneficial.
