Staff Accountant II
About the role
Fall Creek is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant II to support accurate financial reporting, maintain strong accounting controls, and manage complex accounting activities across the organization. This role prepares and reviews journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and reporting schedules while ensuring financial information is complete, accurate, and recorded in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
The Staff Accountant II plays a key role in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, supports audit activities and compliance requirements, and contributes to accounting process improvements. This position takes ownership of assigned complex accounting areas, provides insight into accounting matters, and helps strengthen accounting practices across Fall Creek. The role also serves as a resource for less experienced accounting team members by sharing knowledge and providing guidance.
This position is part of the Finance department, reports to the Accounting Manager, and works closely with Finance, Operations, FP&A, and other business partners in a global, matrixed environment. The work setting is office and hybrid, with office presence required 3 days per week, based in Eugene/Springfield, Oregon (United States).
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review complex journal entries and supporting documentation to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting.
- Lead assigned monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
- Own assigned complex balance sheet and income statement accounts, including reconciliations, analyses, and supporting schedules.
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately, completely, and within the appropriate accounting period.
- Prepare advanced account analyses, reporting schedules, financial reporting packages, and management reports.
- Investigate and resolve complex accounting issues, reconciliation discrepancies, and variances.
- Review reconciliation documentation and support consistent standards for accounting accuracy and completeness.
- Support management, corporate, statutory, and audit reporting requirements.
- Perform accounting activities related to fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses, inventory, and standard cost accounting.
- Support complex accounting areas including capitalization, depreciation, inventory analysis, and assigned balance sheet activities.
- Assist with technical accounting research, interpretation of accounting guidance, and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
- Support compliance with U.S. GAAP, applicable statutory requirements, company policies, and internal control requirements.
- Coordinate and support audit requests for assigned accounting areas by preparing documentation, schedules, and responses.
- Identify financial risks, control gaps, and opportunities to strengthen accounting processes and reporting accuracy.
- Lead assigned process improvement initiatives and support improvements related to automation, reporting, and accounting efficiency.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades, testing, and validation activities while ensuring data integrity within assigned accounting processes.
- Utilize ERP systems, including NetSuite, and advanced Excel tools to perform accounting activities, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Partner with Accounting Managers, Regional Controllers, FP&A, and operational teams to provide accounting guidance and financial insight.
- Communicate accounting issues, risks, and recommendations clearly and professionally to appropriate stakeholders.
- Serve as a resource for assigned accounting processes and provide guidance, training, and knowledge sharing to other accounting team members.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, and business information and adhere to ethical business practices, including FCPA standards.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, and internal controls.
- Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting practices.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.

Qualifications (Preferred)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Experience with inventory and cost accounting.
- Experience working in manufacturing, agriculture, biotechnology, life sciences, or related fields.
- Experience supporting accounting process improvements or system implementations.
- Experience using ERP systems; NetSuite experience is strongly preferred.
- Professional bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or English/Chinese).
- Experience working in global, multi-region environments, multi-location organizations, or matrix organizations.

Schedule
