About the role
Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting to the Controller, this role supports key accounting functions including accounts receivable, vendor payments, bank reconciliations, deposits, grant reporting support, and audit preparation.
Responsibilities
- Process customer invoices and track accounts receivable
- Reconcile revenue-related transactions and resolve discrepancies
- Auxiliary with processing vendor invoices and payments
- Reconcile all deposits
- Reconcile bank statements and complete monthly cash reconciliations for all bank accounts
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger entries
- Conduct variance analysis and report findings to management
- Auxiliary with grant reporting documentation
- Gather information and supporting documentation for annual audits
- Auxiliary with internal and external audits
- Support special projects and other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 1–3 years of accounting experience
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting is a plus, but not required
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
- Knowledge of QuickBooks Online, Microsoft 365, and Bill.com preferred
- Advanced Excel skills preferred
- Excellent analytical skills and strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
