St. Michael's | Shift Leader
About the role
The Shift Leader at Catholic Charities is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all children in care. This role involves providing leadership and support to residential direct care staff, conducting meetings, and participating in continuous quality improvement.
Responsibilities
- Provides leadership, supervision, and evaluative input to youth care workers (YCW) to ensure client safety and security at all times.
- Assigns specific duties and responsibilities to staff members in a team atmosphere.
- Conducts camera supervision surveillance for at least 30 minutes to ensure staff accountability.
- Ensures YCWs are alert and conducts supervision checks on youth according to program procedures.
- Works with the treatment team to develop appropriate skills groups for clients.
- Facilitates skills group meetings with clients.
- Supervises kitchen staff to ensure proper food safety practices, meal preparation, food usage, storage, menu completion, stock rotation, and maintains appropriate pantry stock.
- Oversees all children's activities, ensures children in care are closely supervised by youth care workers, and ensures that children in care are provided with transportation during regular and special education, and recreational outings.
- Maintains YCW/client ratios following licensure guidelines, Cooperative Agreement, and program procedures.
- Completes accurate documentation, reviews client activities/events, and documents building inspections as needed.
- Supports compliance by filing client progress notes, weekly activity forms, monthly activity/calendar, and redirection forms from previous shifts on a daily/weekly basis.
- Ensures the security of the shelter, maintains functional security, alarm, and surveillance systems, and documents repairs as needed.
- Communicates with other service areas and assists in distributing information about training or meetings.
- Performs other duties as required by supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- One (1) year of experience in the child welfare field working with children or adolescents in a social service setting.
- One (1) year in a leadership role.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.

- Strong verbal and writing skills.
- Ability to cook, handle laundry, and house cleaning.
- Pleasant disposition and professional demeanor.
- Able to prioritize work responsibilities, handle multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Skills
- Knowledge of computer programs and databases necessary to complete daily tasks including, but not limited to, population reports, e-mail communication, excel spreadsheets, scanning, and printing of adobe forms.
