St George Hospital - Senior Dietitian - Surgery

Temporary Full Time position until 2 July 2027.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic dietitian with high-level clinical skills to join the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at St George Hospital. This senior dietitian position will include inpatient and outpatient care within our surgical team.

The ideal candidate will have extensive post-graduate clinical experience, including managing patients with complex nutrition requirements in an acute hospital setting.

Where you’ll be working

The St George Hospital and Health Services is part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. It is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales and a leading centre for trauma and emergency management in the state. The hospital is a 10-minute walk from Kogarah station.

The hospital’s areas of special expertise include cancer services, critical care, gastrointestinal and cardiothoracic surgery, and women’s and children’s health care.

Our department is a large team of dedicated dietitians (ranging from early career to experienced clinical specialists), Dietitian Assistants, and a Dietitian Assistant Supervisor. We have innovative Dietitian Assistant clinical pathways providing support across the hospital and a Clinical Educator dietitian supporting student teaching and training with our university partners.

The hospital is currently undergoing redevelopment and recently opened a new Kensington Street Building (KSB), which includes day-only, ambulatory, and outpatient services, along with three levels of inpatient beds. The KSB features a new Allied Health staff hub with abundant natural light, district views, new meeting facilities, and a dedicated floor for Allied Health outpatient services.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality person-centred nutrition care.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement in-depth clinical expertise and specialised knowledge in Nutrition and Dietetics to deliver high-quality care consistent with NSW Health and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures, and standards.
• Actively participate in quality improvement, service development activities, and clinical supervision of junior staff and students.
• Provide in-depth advice and education to enhance service delivery and guide others in achieving service excellence.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, applying advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgment in complex or critical situations.
• Initiate, lead, complete, and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.
• Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing clinical and professional learning.

Requirements

• Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award.
• Extensive post-graduate clinical experience in Nutrition and Dietetics.
• Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and advocacy skills, with the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders at all organizational levels.
• Ability to provide clinical supervision to other staff.
• Capacity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgment in novel, complex, or critical situations.
• Experience initiating, leading, and completing quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes.

Pay

$116,892 - $120,680 per annum plus superannuation.

Schedule

38 hours per week.
