SSR Correctional Officer (019938), Kirkland CI, Columbia (RICHLAND)

Employees assigned to the Maximum-Security Unit receive a $3,000 special incentive.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision of all wing activities and functions.
• Conduct security, safety, and health inspections at least every 30 minutes on an irregular basis; record checks in the MSU Logbook and Zebra Scanners.
• Prepare and submit written reports of all events.
• Maintain surveillance and search for contraband.
• Ensure the highest standard of cleanliness and sanitation are maintained at all times.
• Ensure Multi-Threat Vest and face shield are properly worn by all staff when present on the wing.
• Be knowledgeable of emergency evacuation policies and procedures.
• Conduct an inventory of all equipment and keys.
• Maintain and operate security devices such as gates, doors, weapons, and mechanical devices.
• Ensure all inmates are strip-searched and restrained to the highest level of security prior to entering/exiting the cell.
• Ensure two officers are present at all times whenever a cell door is open.
• Report inmate complaints for appropriate action to be taken.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age or older.
• High school graduate or GED.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Tattoos must not be offensive, gang-related, or visibly located on the face or head; neck tattoos evaluated case-by-case.
• Must pass a medical assessment administered by SCDC.
• Must successfully complete the Correctional Officer Basic Certification Course within six months of placement.

Pay

Base pay ranges from $54,682 to $55,704, depending on years of current agency service plus institution incentives. Kirkland CI offers additional incentives.
