About the role

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures in accordance with accepted protocols as directed by physicians.
  • Produces images of internal body tissues to diagnose and monitor conditions such as heart disease, pregnancy, and cancer.
  • Supervises and mentors ultrasound personnel.
  • Maintains ultrasound equipment.

Requirements

  • Education and Work Experience: Diploma/certificate from an Ultrasound college/school: Required Three years' sonography experience: Preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications: ACR Accredited Sites: All sonographers must be certified and currently registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification in Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics (OB) or Vascular (RVT); or Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI-RVS); or Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Sonography (S) or (VS): Required in CA and HI (with multiple areas)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Facility Specific License/Certifications: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or CCI Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI RVS) or ARRT-Vascular Sonography (ARRT-VS) or ARRT-Sonography (ARRT-S): Required

Essential Functions

  • Uses ultrasound equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to a prescribed area of the patient’s body and capture quality images that describe the composition, shape, and motion of tissues, organs, vessels, and pathology.
  • Summarizes, documents, verifies, and presents images, findings, calculations, and measurements to physicians for diagnoses.
  • Adheres to ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, precautions, and standards.
  • Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient condition and ability to cooperate. Positions patients and equipment, prepares patients for procedures, and continually monitors and records vital signs.
  • Observes for reactions and signs of impending complications and intervenes as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records, files, and billing information.
  • Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other patient confidentiality guidelines and regulations.
  • Trains, supervises, and mentors students and ultrasound personnel. Manages staff scheduling as needed. Continually monitors for and implements performance improvement opportunities.
  • Performs routine maintenance of ultrasound equipment and manages supply inventory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
