About the Role
As a Mechanic / Technician with FedEx Freight, you will use your heavy equipment experience and/or diesel mechanic education to maintain and repair our fleet of diesel tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment that requires preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, modifications, and repairs.
Responsibilities
- Repairs, modifies, and performs preventive maintenance inspections on vehicle fleet including tractors, trailers, forklifts, and other equipment.
- Performs advanced diagnostics to identify sources of trouble and performs repairs and/or replaces or rebuilds all components and systems.
- Makes necessary adjustments to equipment for safe and efficient operation and prepares required safety documentation.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to less-experienced technicians.
- Ensures proper and accurate documentation of all maintenance performed, completes reports in writing and electronically.
- Performs safety inspections of equipment and documents the work.
- Performs paint and body work on vehicles, as required.
- Complies with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma (or GED), preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience performing vehicle maintenance.
- A heavy-duty vehicle maintenance certificate from an accredited vocational/trade school may substitute for one year of vehicle maintenance experience.
- A Master ASE certification may substitute for an additional two years of vehicle maintenance experience.
- Demonstrated competency in repair and maintenance of Brakes, Electrical, PMI, Powertrain, and Trailing Equipment.
- Medium/Heavy Truck Master ASE Certification and Class A CDL preferred.
- Proficient computer skills, including maintenance programs and diagnostic systems.
- In-depth knowledge of gas and diesel engines and on-board computers.
- Experience using precision measurement instruments, oxygen/acetylene equipment, and lifting devices.
- Ability to frequently lift components weighing approximately 110 pounds with appropriate equipment and/or assistance.
- Valid driver’s license may be required depending on work assignment.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles with manual or automatic transmissions.
- Paint and body work experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing duties.
- Exposure to dust, diesel fumes, and noise.
- May drive service van to off-site locations and perform work.
- Exposure to climate conditions of the geographic area.
- Exposure to chemicals, oils, greases, paints, or other irritants.
- Hours may vary due to operational needs.
Benefits
- Additional $5.50 per hour for candidates with A.S.E. Master Certification.

Starting Rate of Pay: $36.17 per hour
